DESCRIPTION

The 22nd Athens Jazz is back, more dynamic and subversive than ever, at the Technopolis City of Athens, with exciting happenings full of music, side events and many more to be enjoyed by all.

The music festival, which is the established meeting point of jazz fans in Athens and beyond, gives us for the 22nd consecutive year the opportunity to enjoy world-famous names, budding jazz artists and up-and-coming bands as well as the latest in the local jazz scene.

The largest jazz music festival in Greece will gather again this year a total of 21 artists from all over the world on the main stage of Technopolis, creating a highly diverse line up that expresses the absolute character of jazz that knows no borders.

As every year, the first day of Athens Jazz is dedicated to the Greek jazz scene, presenting the three Greek bands chosen by the festival’s artistic committee. Spiral Trio, Nefeli Fasouli Quintet and Thomas Mitrousis Quartet will take the stage on the first day of this year’s event in the most ideal way, setting the tone for what we will enjoy in the coming days of the festival.

Spanning the entire spectrum of music, the rich international artistic program that follows will bring to Technopolis Veronika Harcsa & Bálint Gyémánt (HU), Jonathan Collin-Bouhon (BE), Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity (NO), AJS Quartet (AL), Rembrandt Trio (NL), Tygroo (CZ), Joel Lyssarides Trio (SE), I Think You’re Awesome (DK), Erik Truffaz (CH), Quintedo (CY), Candlelight Ficus (AT), Raphael Gualazzi (IT), OZMA (FR), Daniel García Trio (ES), Maxime Bender “Universal Sky” (LU), Guy Mintus Trio (IL) and KID BE KID (DE), Jackson Mathod (UK).

In its 22nd edition, Athens Jazz is enriched with side events, while there is also the club program that will take place at Gazarte. Specifically, on Tuesday, May 23, the emblematic composer and musician Roy Ayers, as part of the Farewell Tour with which he officially bids farewell to live performances, will be grooving on the Main Stage for the last time, while on Monday, May 28, the “god” of drums and leader of the jazz fusion scene, Billy Cobham, will take us on an unforgettable musical journey. The unsurpassed jazz maestro, flanked by distinguished musicians such as Gary Husband (keyboards), Rocco Zifarelli (guitar) and Michael Mondesir (bass), will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of his legendary album Spectrum, giving the ideal, festive closing event at the 22nd edition of Athens Jazz.

Stay tuned as the full program of the festival will be announced soon, detailed information about the participations as well as the parallel events.
