Plateia Agiou Georgiou Karytsi 8, Athens
DATE
07 - 23 May 2022
DESCRIPTION
The exhibition “Arte nuragica / contemporanea” arrives in the city of Athens. The project aims to share the historical and contemporary values of Sardinia through various installations in our region and abroad.
Ranging from the historic Nuragic statues of Mont’e Prama to the works of contemporary artists, this exhibition explores the Island’s historical, environmental, and cultural values.
The exhibition is an opportunity to explore new masterpieces, specifically created or unreleased to the public, inspired by the “Giants of Mont’e Prama” Nuragic statues. In addition, explanatory panels and QR codes will walk the visitors through Sardinia’s Nuragic era, through contents translated in different languages (including Greek). This way, the exhibition provides visitors with a unique opportunity to place the new contemporary artworks within the original setting of the Giants’ time.
The artworks have been selected through a contest which lasted two months. The competition was mainly advertised through social networks and received large exposure in the media. 12 projects were selected between more than 160 submitted art pieces.
In 2019 and early 2020 the artworks have been exhibited in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), in the gallery “City Art Gallery”, in the context of the European Capital of Culture 2019.
