VENUE

DESCRIPTION
The retrospective exhibition of the engraver Nikos Desekopoulos reveals the knowledge and experience of a master, an artist with virtues and the highest quality work who also has something to say. Desekopoulos is a genuine “craftsman” for his art who has charted his artistic path through the battle of the chisel with his material. His engraving demands the precision of design and decisive gestures combined with improvisation. Desekopoulos supports traditional engraving techniques and prints his woodcuts by hand.
The exhibition includes works created from 1974 until today and includes sections on Aegean architecture, travel, chairs, Greek coffeehouses, neoclassicism, boats, trees and plants, electricity, the human form, micro-engravings, book plates and illustrations. Each section includes 5-10 works, which are created in different periods of time.
Guided tours will be offered by the artist on Thursday 18 May at 18:00, Sunday 28 May at 12:00, Thursday 8 June at 18:00, and Sunday 11 June at 12:00.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, May 11 from 18:00 to 22:00. The exhibition is organized by the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the City of Athens, as part of the Athens City Festival.
