SUMMARY:Photography Exhibition: Oleksandr Glyadyelov – Look at Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:As part of the 2026 Philosophy Festival / European Dialogues organised by the French Institute of Greece\, the public spaces of Athens are transformed into an open platform for historical memory and reflection. The This is Athens City Festival hosts the outdoor photography exhibition Look at Ukraine by Oleksandr Glyadyelov. The artist’s powerful photographs\, presented on large-scale display panels\, will be installed throughout the duration of the Philosophy Festival around the National Garden.\n\nBased on the retrospective tribute exhibition presented in Kyiv in September 2025\, the exhibition offers a deeply sensitive and humanistic reflection on the contemporary history of Ukraine\, from its independence in 1991 to the ongoing war. Through his lens\, Glyadyelov captures with honesty the mobilisation of citizens\, the fragility of everyday life\, and the immense challenges faced by Ukrainian families. A significant photographic intervention that invites passers-by and visitors to the city centre to pause and confront history through a profoundly human-centred perspective.

SUMMARY:Ecological Translation
DESCRIPTION:The Goethe-Institut Athen presents the exhibition Ecological Translation\, a bold exploration of our relationship with the natural world. \n\nWhat if technology allowed us to speak directly with animals and plants? \n\nDrawing on emerging legal frameworks that recognise rights for rivers and ecosystems\, the exhibition examines the use of artificial intelligence and remote sensing as a potential “Google Translate” between humans and the environment. Through the work of an international group of artist visitors are invited to reflect on whether we can truly translate the radical otherness of beings such as bats or whales. The exhibition\, which opened on 28 April\, forms part of a broader interdisciplinary symposium that seeks to highlight both the opportunities and the risks of new scientific approaches reminding us that the complexity of the climate crisis demands a new\, shared language of communication with the planet.\n\nArtists:\nKyriaki Goni\nAbelardo Gil-Fournier\nNona Inescu\nAgata Ingarden\nBill Kouligas\nRaffaela Naldi Rossano\nZoë Paul\nJenna Sutela\n\nConcept: Alexander Damianos\nCuration: Asya Yaghmurian\n\nExhibition duration: 28 April – 30 May.\n\nOpening hours: Monday–Thursday: 08:00–22:00\, Friday: 08:00–17:00 & Saturday: 08:00–14:30 (23 May: closed).

SUMMARY:Nikolas Klironomos: A Retrospective (1985–2025)
DESCRIPTION:This major retrospective is a brilliant place to start looking into the work of Nikolas Klironomos\, an artist who has spent decades masterfully blurring the lines between fine art and set design.\n\nKlironomos doesn’t just paint; he “directs” his canvases. Think of him as a visual filmmaker who takes the raw\, chaotic energy of Athens\, our streets\, our faces\, our light\, and filters it through a lens of memory and emotion.\n\nIn this exhibition\, the mundane meets the dreamlike. You’ll see the changing seasons of the city tangled up with those small\, quirky moments that make life in Athens so unique. By playing with vibrant palettes and some rather unusual materials\, he creates scenes that feel like they’re in constant motion. It’s a bit like catching a glimpse of Athens from a moving Vespa—everything is fluid\, poetic\, and strangely alive.\n\nThis exhibition is designed to speak directly to your heart and your memory. What’s truly clever is how Klironomos takes “the bits and bobs” of life\, those fragmented\, everyday moments\, and gives them a sense of grandeur and importance. It’s a proper journey into the hidden corners of time and what it actually means to be human.\n\nExhibition duration: 1 May – 14 June\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday–Saturday: 11:00–19:00; Sunday: 10:00–16:00. Closed on Monday.

SUMMARY:Panos Charalambous: COLUMBIA
DESCRIPTION:At CITRONNE Gallery\, Panos Charalambous invites us to step into a “sonic room” that speaks directly to the memory of the city. The journey begins in 2006\, the year the historic Columbia vinyl record factory in Rizoupoli was demolished\, symbolically closing a massive chapter of Greek music history. Columbia was a place where the voices\, songs\, and moments that shaped our collective soundscape were once etched into wax.\n\nCharalambous transforms the gallery into a visceral\, immersive installation. Here\, you are invited to walk across a “sound floor\,” literally treading on the echoes of a memory that refuses to fade. It is a haunting reminder that music doesn’t vanish with the buildings that once housed it; instead\, it survives through emotion\, shared experience\, and our collective imagination.\n\nIn a city that is constantly evolving\, COLUMBIA is a profound meditation on decay\, remembrance\, and our deep-seated need to keep our shared history alive.\n\nExhibition duration: 29 April – 29 June\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday\, Thursday\, Friday: 11:00–20:00; Wednesday\, Saturday: 11:00–16:00. Closed on Monday & Sunday.

SUMMARY:Demosthenes Agrafiotis: "Xαrtιά" [Crossroads & Junctions] 1975–2025
DESCRIPTION:At Art Project Space\, the exhibition “Xαrtιά” [Crossroads & Junctions] 1975–2025 carries both a retrospective and emotional resonance. Originally conceived by Demosthenes Agrafiotis himself for late 2025\, his sudden passing has transformed this presentation into a vital tribute to the expansive work and thought of a true pioneer in Greek experimental art and poetry.\n\nSpanning five decades of creation\, the exhibition invites the public to navigate the “crossroads” where Agrafiotis’s writing\, imagery\, and theoretical enquiries met. It is a rare opportunity to trace the evolution of a mind that saw art as a constant state of transition and experimentation.\n\nAlongside the retrospective\, the exhibition presents his final creation: the artist’s book “Synoda” (Accompaniments)\, released in a limited\, numbered edition of just 40 unique copies. This is more than an exhibition; it is a final\, precious dialogue with an artist who thought of art as a field for experimentation\, deep enquiry\, and a state of constant transition.\n\n\nExhibition duration: 20–30 May\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday 17:00–21:00\, Thursday & Friday 12:00–20:00\, Saturday 11:00–15:00. Closed on Sunday\, Monday & Wednesday.

SUMMARY:Nikos Kalafatis: Primavera
DESCRIPTION:Nikos Kalafatis presents Primavera\, an exhibition curated by Athena Schina\, at Technohoros Art Gallery. It is a vibrant\, optimistic\, and deeply personal tribute to the natural world. For Kalafatis\, nature isn’t just a subject; it’s a constant source of daily observation and artistic discovery. Taking the energy of spring as his starting point\, the artist creates a world where simple\, discarded materials are granted a second life. Driftwood\, metals\, ropes\, feathers\, and various objets trouvés are meticulously transformed through painting\, sculpture\, and engraving into works brimming with poetry\, ingenuity\, and a subtle touch of wit.\nThis isn’t just a traditional look at the outdoors; it’s an invitation to adopt a lighter\, more observant way of being\, one that is open to the “everyday miracles” of the city and beyond. In the heart of the festival\, Primavera proves that spring isn’t just a season; it’s a creative state of mind.\n\nExhibition duration: 8–30 May\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday\, Thursday\, Friday: 12:00–20:00; Wednesday\, Saturday: 10:00–18:00. Closed on Sunday & Monday.

SUMMARY:Dr. Yiannis N. Tzortzis: Greenland: Blue Ice
DESCRIPTION:The a.antonopoulou.art gallery presents the new solo photography exhibition by Dr. Giannis Tzortzis\, which is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Denmark in Greece. Through a “green photographic journey” carried out in August 2024\, the artist captures the “barometer of global climate change”: Greenland.\n\nThe exhibition is a powerful “visual cry of anguish\,” documenting UNESCO World Heritage sites at risk and the everyday life of the Indigenous Inuit people. Tzortzis’ experiential images highlight the fragile beauty of the landscape and the dramatic reality of the climate crisis\, reminding us that ice takes on a deep blue color just before it disappears forever.\n\nThe exhibition is accompanied by texts by writer Maria Giannayou and academic Christos Zerefos\, enriching the dialogue between art\, science\, and environmental awareness.\n\nOpening: Thursday\, May 7 at 19:00.\n\nExhibition duration: 7 May – 13 June\n\nOpening hours: Wednesday\, Thursday\, Friday: 14:00–20:00; Saturday: 12:00–16:00. SUMMARY:Melachrinos Velentzas: Rebirth
DESCRIPTION:An abandoned piano\, long-silent in a dusty Athenian corner\, finds its voice once more. Pianist and performer Melachrinos Velentzas presents Rebirth\, blending performance\, installation\, and collective ritual in some of the city’s most emblematic spaces.\n\nThrough a musical ceremony\, Velentzas resuscitates an instrument that has endured years of stillness. It is a powerful parallel between the decay of a forgotten object and the quiet frustration of a person who has lost their connection to “play.” But this isn’t just a performance to watch\, it’s an invitation to participate. As the notes echo through the air\, you are invited to join a collective act of storytelling\, leaving your own personal histories on the stools of other “forgotten” pianos from across Athens.\n\nPart of the artist’s long-term research into the materiality of instruments and the memories held within the city’s homes\, Rebirth transforms individual loss into a shared\, redemptive experience. Come and witness the city’s silent history find its rhythm again.

SUMMARY:Dimitra Siaterli: Cohesive Networks
DESCRIPTION:This solo exhibition by Dimitra Siaterli\, curated by art historian and museologist Vasia Magoula\, is presented as a fascinating journey connecting the artist’s past and present. Spanning from the 1980s and 90s right through to her brand-new productions\, the exhibition unfolds in three sections that feel like acts in a play. Visitors will wander through a world of strange minerals\, fossils\, and mythical creatures\, eventually arriving at an “anatomy” of the human form through striking sculptures\, meshes\, and engravings. Tiny human figures seem to leap out from labyrinths and processions\, creating a playful tension between myth and reality. This is an experiential journey that reminds us of the vital human need for connection and our place as a precious part of a vast\, collective network. It is a study of coexistence\, delivered in a visual language that speaks to the heart about the time and space we all share.\n\n\nOpening: 14 May at 19:00.\n\nExhibition duration: 14 May – 21 June\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 11:00–19:00 & Sunday: 10:00–16:00\, Monday: closed.

SUMMARY:Dimitris Rentoumis: Solo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Crux Galerie presents the solo exhibition of Dimitris Rentoumis. Through his new series of works\, the artist “dialogues” with the transient and fragile nature of paper\, experimenting with the transition from a two-dimensional image to a three-dimensional variable materiality. He transforms paper surfaces into sculptural forms that occupy the space.\n\nWith a rich journey that includes studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Netherlands\, as well as participation in prestigious programmes such as Jan van Eyck and Onassis Air\, the creator brings a proposal to Athens that balances the delicacy of the material with the dynamics of the installation.\n\nThis is a unique opportunity for the public to discover how paper can “breathe” and develop beyond the boundaries of the frame\, creating a living visual environment.\n\nExhibition duration: 23 April – 30 May\n\nOpening hours: Wednesday–Friday: 12:00–20:00; Saturday: 12:00–16:00. Closed on Monday\, Tuesday & Sunday.

SUMMARY:Giorgos Louloudis: The Path of Light – The Innate
DESCRIPTION:In his new solo exhibition at Gallery Genesis\, Giorgos Louloudis places light centre stage\, moving beyond its role as a mere physical phenomenon. The artist turns his focus toward the small Greek chapels and their unique relationship with the landscape\, transforming them into potent symbols of hope\, silence\, and internal quest. These works function as quiet stations of contemplation\, where physical space and psychological experience are inextricably linked.\n\nThrough a powerful expressionist style\, Louloudis’s painted surfaces gain emotional intensity and depth. Light becomes an inner necessity\, a force that guides the viewer toward a deeply personal reading of the work. This exhibition speaks to the universal need for solace and the enduring power of hope\, asserting art’s ability to serve as a point of renewal and reflection in demanding times.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening: Thursday\, May 7 at 20:00. \nExhibition duration: 7–30 May \nOpening hours: Tuesday\, Thursday\, Friday: 12:00–21:00; Saturday: 12:00–15:00. SUMMARY:Anna Dimitriou: Always the Blue
DESCRIPTION:NEZER Collective Gallery presents Always the Blue\, a solo exhibition by visual artist Anna Dimitriou. Through the curatorial approach of the architectural team SOL by Elephant Design\, the exhibition space is conceived as a site of living narrative and spatial experience\, where the placement\, scale and interplay of the works come together to form a unified architectural journey.\n\nThe exhibition invites viewers to consider “blue” not simply as a colour\, but as a deeply emotional and conceptual landscape. Through collage and mixed-media works\, the figures emerge as fragments that evoke the feeling of the Greek summer as an ever-present moment. Here\, the sea becomes an inner landscape\, while Dimitriou’s characteristic swimmers move not through water\, but through the depths of collective and family memory. They drift freely and effortlessly\, without instruction or fear\, within a blue that functions as a state of being\, a promise and a refuge\, a reminder of the importance of preserving the world that has shaped us.\n\nExhibition Duration: 8 May – 8 June\n\nOpening Hours: Tuesday–Sunday 17:00–21:00\, Closed on Mondays.
