DESCRIPTION:Ermou Street will come alive with rhythm\, colour and vintage style as Athens marks World Lindy Hop Day. On Tuesday 26 May\, from 9 pm to 11 pm\, Lindy Hop groups and swing enthusiasts from across the city will gather at 148 Ermou Street for a huge open-air celebration\, open to all.\n\nLindy Hop\, the best-known social dance of the swing family\, first emerged in 1930s Harlem\, New York\, and remains a vibrant form of cultural expression\, improvisation and genuine human connection.\n\nThe date has been chosen to honour the birth of the legendary Frankie Manning\, whose influence was instrumental in spreading and preserving swing culture around the world.\n\nAmong those taking part are some of Athens’ most active swing communities: Hoppers in Athens\, Stomping Ground\, Jump n Jive\, Groove in Athens\, Athens Boogie\, Steam Rollers\, Jazz Antidrastiras\, Hob Nob\, Swing That Thing\, Athens Lindy Hop and Athens Authentic Jazz Dance. Together\, they’ll transform Ermou Street into a lively swing dance floor\, drawing passers-by and visitors alike into the irresistible rhythm of swing.

The exhibition presents 50 iconic photographs from the archive of the Associated Press international news agency\, capturing historic moments from the world’s most celebrated football tournament—images engraved in the collective memory of football fans around the globe. \nAlong Vasilissis Sofias and Amalias Avenues\, powerful photographs capture emotion\, intensity and unforgettable moments that made history\, offering viewers a journey through time while creating an open cultural and sporting experience for all. \nAt the same time\, Athens Photo World returns for its seventh consecutive year to the fencing of the Athens Concert Hall\, from 29 May to 31 August 2026\, presenting the photographic exhibition Mitos\, the Thread of Greece by Michalis Pappas. Through 13 selected images\, Greek tradition is reinterpreted as traditional costumes are brought to life through contemporary figures\, highlighting the timelessness and ongoing evolution of cultural heritage.
