SUMMARY:Theatre Battles in Ancient Athens
DESCRIPTION:The This is Athens City Festival invites explorers of all ages to an educational adventure that reimagines ancient Athens through the eyes of two real-life legends. Auteas and Philoxenides\, two “choregoi” (the visionary sponsors of the time) from Aexone\, today’s Glyfada\, are making a symbolic comeback 2\,300 years later to guide us through the thrilling world of theatrical competitions.\n\nWhat exactly was the role of a sponsor back then? How were the city’s massive festivals organised? And why was theatre so much more than just a night out?\n\nTaking its cue from a rare honorary decree from 313/2 BC housed in the Epigraphical Museum\, this session is specially designed for families with children aged 7 to 10. Through storytelling\, discovery\, and a hands-on creative workshop\, kids will dive into ancient drama and the city’s public life in a way that’s interactive\, fast-paced\, and fun. It’s a chance to pull the past into the present with imagination\, play\, and a real connection to Athens’ cultural soul.\n\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:1945: The End of the War
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “1945: The End of the War” opens its doors for a specially designed guided tour\, tailored for families with children over the age of 10. Through a journey across the landmark year that sealed global history\, visitors will have the chance to discover the dramatic moments that led from the horrors of war to the explosion of joy at the victory of the free nations.\n\nWith the help of rare photographic material and authentic documents\, the tour narrates major events in an accessible and meaningful way: from the liberation of the camps and the fall of Berlin to the historic meetings of leaders at Yalta and the birth of the UN. This is a unique opportunity for parents and children to approach modern history together\, to understand the importance of peace\, and to reflect on the values that shaped the world we live in today.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:7th Agatha Crime Fiction Festival
DESCRIPTION:The This is Athens City Festival 2026 welcomes the 7th Agatha Crime Fiction Festival\, the annual literary rendezvous that transforms Athens into a gripping mystery set. The intrigue kicks off on 5 May with a series of pre-festival pop-ups\, culminating in a high-stakes three-day takeover of the War Museum on 15\, 16\, and 17 May.\n\nThis year’s line-up features international titans of the genre\, including Spain’s legendary Arturo Pérez-Reverte\, alongside B.A. Paris\, Kristina Ohlsson\, and Hugues Pagan. From deep dives into true crime and interactive mystery games to creative writing seminars and Rebetiko sessions celebrating the city’s “underworld” anthems\, the Agatha Festival promises surprises at every turn. Don’t miss the unique theatrical performance starring the authors themselves\, or the grand tribute to the “father” of Greek noir\, Yannis Maris.\n\nWith chapters unfolding from Thissio to Cholargos\, the city awakens to a rhythm of suspense and shadows. Whether you’re a seasoned sleuth or a casual reader\, it’s a brilliant shout for those wanting to explore the “hidden gems” of the literary world.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:Guided Tour: Dimitra Siaterli’s “Cohesive Networks”
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a special guided tour of Dimitra Siaterli’s solo exhibition\, a journey that peels back the deeper layers of a visual world spanning four decades. As we move among intricate meshes\, perforated sculptures\, and engravings\, a whole “labyrinth” of tiny human figures is gradually revealed.\n\nThis is a universe that speaks to our fundamental need to connect\, to belong\, and to communicate. It is a profound\, experiential tour that brings the audience closer to the artist’s work\, illuminating the importance of the “cohesive networks” that unite us in a shared present.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.
