Diogenous 1-3, Athens
The Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments “Fivos Anoyanakis” – Centre for Ethnomusicology is considered as one of the most significant Museums of its kind in the Mediterranean. The Centre for Ethnomusicology was founded in 1991 to house the unique collection of Fivos Anoyanakis, musicologist and researcher of Greek folk musical instruments.
Today, its collections showcase approximately two thousand musical instruments (chordophones, aerophones, membranophones) and sound objects dating from the 18th century to the present day, including many rare types of instruments that would have otherwise disappeared.
Along with the rich collection of musical instruments, the Museum boasts a valuable research collection with musicological archives, an audio library with 1000 recordings of Greek and international traditional music, a photographic archive, and a library consisting of 5000 titles with rare and unique printed publications of traditional and Byzantine music.
