DESCRIPTION
The exhibition follows Greece’s path through The Great Idea, a vision for Greece promoted from the late 19th to the early 20th century by politicians and intellectuals who called for national expansion and unification. The exhibition is divided into two parts that examine the impact of The Great Idea on the Greece of today.
The first exhibition concerns the Asia Minor Campaign of 1919-1923 that temporaily expanded the Greek borders until the Burning of Smyrna in September 1922 – known as the Catastrophe. The second exhibition opening later in 2023 will focus on the population exchanges and refugees who shaped the modern identity of Greece.
