DESCRIPTION
Lionella premiered during the spring of 1891 at the Teatro alla Scala, the Opera of Milan. The story revolves around Andor, a Hungarian aristocrat and army officer in love with gambling even more than Lionella, a young and beautiful Roma girl who has broken ties with her family and friends.
The opera was composed in Corfu by Spyros Samaras, and has recently been brought to light through the musicological research of Byron Fidetzis. Until the beginning of the 21st century, there was no access to this work except the small “Hungarian Rhapsody.”
