DESCRIPTION

Alekos Vretos is known in Greece as one of the finest players of the oud, the pear-shaped stringed instrument that plays an important role in music on all sides of the Mediterranean.

His style and compositions merge jazz, Arabic, Greek and Latin music in a masterful blend of sounds. In the context of Piano City Athens, Alekow Vretos performs at the University of Athens History Museum, a remarkable location on the north slope of the Acropolis.

He’ll explore new and old compositions as well as pieces from a wide range of Mediterranean traditions played through the prism of jazz, including songs from the Arabic, Armenian and Turkish repertoire. Dimitris Verdinoglou joins on the piano.
