Along with the permanent presentation of Mylona’s works in the venue, the museum also holds temporary exhibitions on contemporary sculptors’ or/and group exhibitions. Educational programmes and parallel events also take place.
The museum is one of the five museums / departments that constitute the Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki (MOMus), the largest museum organization in the country since 2018, the year of its foundation.
Permanent exhibition with works by Alex Mylona
On the fringe of the Athens Archaeological Park, MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona is housed in an impressive eclecticism building designed in 1920 by Vassilis Tsagris. Alex Mylona (1920-2016) studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. She worked in Greece and France. In 1960, she represented Greece at the Venice Biennale. In 1986, the National Gallery-Alexandros Soutsos Museum in Athens hosted a large retrospective of her work. In her later years, she founded the Alex Mylona Museum of Contemporary Art (2004) ―today MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona―, looking for a permanent, public home for her works and for a place that would always welcome the works of young aspiring artists.
