The history of coinage from antiquity to modern times unfolds in an important Greek museum, one of the most important of its kind in the world.

At the Athens Numismatic Museum, visitors have the opportunity to view more than 500,000 ancient coins, as well as other related objects such as medals, seal stones and ancient scales. Thus, the course of financial transactions from the 14th century BC to the present day is revealed before our eyes, with the permanent exhibition focusing on the manufacture, dissemination, use and iconography of coins in ancient Greece.

At the same time, on the second floor of the museum, the world of Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, medieval and modern times is presented through hundreds of coins, which tell the story of the evolution of Greek coin minting over the centuries.

On the occasion of International Museum Day on 18 May 2022, the Numismatic Museum organizes free jewellery making and engraving workshops with renowned creators.
