SUMMARY:Pictures of an Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Music and painting meet in a unique collaboration titled “Pictures of an Exhibition.” Composer and pianist Christos Papageorgiou\, inspired by the work of Nikolas Klironomos\, creates and performs a series of compositions that “translate” the visual arts into sound.\n\nFor 70 minutes\, the audience is immersed in an atmospheric experience where each musical phrase acts as a commentary on the artist’s visual world. With an international career and profound musical education\, Papageorgiou establishes a living dialogue between the arts\, where different artistic languages unite into a single\, multisensory experience.\n\nReservations open one week before the event at 12:00.

SUMMARY:Dimitra Siaterli: Cohesive Networks
DESCRIPTION:This solo exhibition by Dimitra Siaterli\, curated by art historian and museologist Vasia Magoula\, is presented as a fascinating journey connecting the artist’s past and present. Spanning from the 1980s and 90s right through to her brand-new productions\, the exhibition unfolds in three sections that feel like acts in a play. Visitors will wander through a world of strange minerals\, fossils\, and mythical creatures\, eventually arriving at an “anatomy” of the human form through striking sculptures\, meshes\, and engravings. Tiny human figures seem to leap out from labyrinths and processions\, creating a playful tension between myth and reality. This is an experiential journey that reminds us of the vital human need for connection and our place as a precious part of a vast\, collective network. It is a study of coexistence\, delivered in a visual language that speaks to the heart about the time and space we all share.\n\n\nOpening: 14 May at 19:00.\n\nExhibition duration: 14–31 May\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 11:00–19:00 & Sunday: 10:00–16:00\, Monday: closed.

SUMMARY:A Talk by Nikolas Klironomos: Interpreting Light in Ancient Greek Painting
DESCRIPTION:Painter and set designer Nikolas Klironomos invites us on a special journey back to the roots of the Greek visual language. His talk will focus on Ancient Greek painting\, exploring how the art of light and colour moved through the centuries\, influencing both European painting and Orthodox iconography\, right up to the Greek creators of the ’30s and ’80s generations.\n\nAt the heart of the presentation is the iconic figure of Polygnotus of Thasos (450 BC)\, whose pioneering colour palette and aesthetic vision remain alive today. Through a curated visual presentation\, participants will have the chance to discover the timeless mark of Hellenistic heritage and the way ancient knowledge continues to fuel contemporary artistic creation.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:Nikolas Klironomos: A Retrospective (1985–2025)
DESCRIPTION:This major retrospective is a brilliant place to start looking into the work of Nikolas Klironomos\, an artist who has spent decades masterfully blurring the lines between fine art and set design.\n\nKlironomos doesn’t just paint; he “directs” his canvases. Think of him as a visual filmmaker who takes the raw\, chaotic energy of Athens\, our streets\, our faces\, our light\, and filters it through a lens of memory and emotion.\n\nIn this exhibition\, the mundane meets the dreamlike. You’ll see the changing seasons of the city tangled up with those small\, quirky moments that make life in Athens so unique. By playing with vibrant palettes and some rather unusual materials\, he creates scenes that feel like they’re in constant motion. It’s a bit like catching a glimpse of Athens from a moving Vespa—everything is fluid\, poetic\, and strangely alive.\n\nThis exhibition is designed to speak directly to your heart and your memory. What’s truly clever is how Klironomos takes “the bits and bobs” of life\, those fragmented\, everyday moments\, and gives them a sense of grandeur and importance. It’s a proper journey into the hidden corners of time and what it actually means to be human.\n\nExhibition duration: 1–30 May\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday–Saturday: 11:00–19:00; Sunday: 10:00–16:00. Closed on Monday.

SUMMARY:Exercises in Unknown Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Proud to be hosting a cross-art collaboration that unites the spoken word\, sound\, and visual imagery. Composer and guitarist Paris Paraschopoulos presents his new album\, “Exercises in Unknown Dreams”\, setting the poems of contemporary Greek creators to music. The evocative voice of Anni Onoufriou brings these lyrics to life\, but the evening offers an extra visual dimension: the live presence of Nikolas Klironomos\, who will be there to engage in a dialogue with the audience and his own artworks. It’s a deep dive into modern Greek creativity\, showing how different art forms can feed off one another.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:Synaesthesia: When Sound Meets Colour
DESCRIPTION:The concept of “Synaesthesia” takes shape through a unique concert that dissolves the boundaries between the arts. Set in a space surrounded by paintings\, sound and colour become one\, offering visitors a rare\, hour-long multi-sensory experience.\n\nThe distinct combination of the bassoon and the harp creates a tonal spectrum full of contrasts: from the deep\, expressive voice of the bassoon to the ethereal and transparent texture of the harp. The audience will have the chance to enjoy works by great composers such as Vivaldi\, Mendelssohn\, Saint-Saëns\, Piazzolla\, and Marcussen\, in a musical dialogue that transforms the acoustic experience into a visual reality.\n\nThis artistic “ritual” is guided by two distinguished soloists: Vasilis Priovolos is a doctor of musical performance and a leading bassoonist with an extensive academic and orchestral career (ERT\, Philharmonia\, University of Athens). Lilia Esipova is an award-winning harpist originally from Moscow\, with years in the most important orchestras in Greece and abroad (ERT National Symphony Orchestra\, Camerata).\n\nReservations open one week before the event at 12:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Guided Tour: AFTER - Giorgos Tserionis & Performance: Homo Urbanus Audit
DESCRIPTION:The Municipal Gallery of Athens presents a unique event centred around the exhibition “AFTER.”\n\nThe event begins with an exclusive walkthrough led by artist Giorgos Tserionis and curator Matina Tsigkakou\, who will explore the life cycle of homo urbanus\, shedding light on the hidden aspects of the urban narrative that define the exhibition. The experience culminates with the provocative performance “Homo urbanus audit” by Alex Louloudis. The internationally acclaimed drummer and composer activates Tserionis’ installation\, transforming it into a living sonic field. Using sounds inspired by the urban landscape\, Louloudis builds and deconstructs auditory structures\, challenging us to become “active listeners” and reflect on our relationship with the sonic stimuli and memories that saturate daily life in the modern city.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

An experiential tour that speaks straight to the heart and memory\, offering a comprehensive look at the work of one of the most versatile creators on the contemporary Greek scene.\n\nThis activity is only available in Greek.

SUMMARY:Giorgos Tserionis: AFTER
DESCRIPTION:Through his works\, Giorgos Tserionis captures the life cycle of homo urbanus\, using a diverse array of materials such as clay\, marble\, metal\, and latex. The artist creates a contemporary “archaeology” from ruins\, building skeletons\, and debris\, highlighting the daily struggle for survival and the eternal search for a better life.\n\nSet within a historic neoclassical building in Metaxourgeio\, his work functions as a memento mori that\, while underscoring human fragility\, is not devoid of hope.\n\nBy juxtaposing darkness with light and “hazard yellow” with earthy tones\, the creator leads us beneath the surface of things\, offering a compassionate look at the hardships of modern man and giving a wink to the future with his own version of “and they lived happily ever after.\n\nExhibition duration: 1–10 May\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening hours: Tuesday–Saturday: 11:00–19:00; Sunday: 10:00–16:00. Closed on Monday.
