The City of Athens celebrates World Car-Free Day with a major open-air event on Athinas Street, organized by the This is Athens – City Festival, an initiative of Develop Athens.

For a full 24 hours, this vibrant central street transforms into a car-free zone, a meeting place that gives everyone the chance to experience a city that “breathes” differently. Motor vehicles give way to music, colour, games, learning, and creativity.

From the evening of Saturday, September 20, to the evening of Sunday, September 21, people of all ages are invited to take part in dozens of activities that bring the city to life and infuse it with rhythm. 

Educational workshops, bikes, scooters, music, storytelling, performances, and late-night screenings take over Athinas Street, transforming this busy street into a more human, greener, and welcoming place.

Once again, the This is Athens – City Festival, organized by Develop Athens, makes its dynamic mark on the city, sending a strong message about sustainable living and the everyday quality of life we all deserve.
