Raised in the deep musical tradition of Anogeia, he is a descendant of a legendary family of musicians from this mountain village. Son of the unique Psarantonis and nephew of Nikos Xylouris, the man who greatly contributed to the revival of Cretan traditional music, Yiorgis has managed to put the laouto (Cretan lute) in the spotlight, giving a leading role to an instrument once considered merely an accompaniment.
