DESCRIPTION
This activity is only available in the Greek language.
This walk aims to reconstruct a small but important area of the city on the banks of the Ilissos River, one of the “lost” rivers of the city that is buried under heavily-used streets. We explore its evolution over time, its connections with historical periods, and elements of the life and history of the city. We focus on the period when Athens was officially pronounced capital of the country and its life during the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Points of interest en route include: Adrian’s Arch, the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, landmarks on Vassilissis Olga’s Avenue, Zappeion (Megaron and Garden), the Kallimarmaron Stadium, St Fotini’s Ilissou Church.
