Historians Eleni Kyramarghiou and Nikolina Myofa invite us on a powerful historical walk in the heart of Neos Kosmos. The tour traces a century of life in Dourgouti, a neighbourhood that emerged from the shanties of Armenian and Asia Minor refugees of 1922 and evolved into a mosaic of successive waves of refugees and migrants.
Through selected points of interest, we follow the transformation of the area from an informal settlement into organised state-built housing complexes, bringing to light memories and stories that have shaped its identity. This is a route that goes beyond documenting architectural change, highlighting instead the resilience, cohesion, and social history of one of Athens’ most emblematic refugee neighbourhoods.
Meeting point: Gefyra bus stop – uphill on Syngrou Avenue (service road of Syngrou Ave & George Horton Street)
