DESCRIPTION

This activity is only available in the Greek language.

The Numismatic Museum is located in Athens’ historic center. Established in 1834, it features over 600,000 exhibits including coins, medals, sealstones, weights, obols and talents, scales and semi-precious stones from ancient Greece and Rome, the Byzantine Empire, eastern civilizations, medieval and modern Europe, America and the modern Greek state.

The museum’s permanent collection presents the history of coins from the ancient world to the modern era. Its xhibits showcase the methods of coin production, the purchase value and circulation of coins as well as the significance of some of the world’s highest currencies.

The museum’s medal collection also provides valuable information on significant historical events as well as on world leaders, historical figures, significant buildings and cities from the Renaissance to the present day.

The guided tour will be conducted by museologist Eleni Naki. Pre-booking is required via e-mail at nm@culture.gr
